Aprons Displayed in a New Way and Remembering the Old Way!

Hi!
I received this lovely email from Mary, the Mother of the Bride, about the history of aprons and I just had to post it for all to read.
Here at the Jones Victorian Estate, we remember and honor the past with special displays of such items like the Apron!
So, in honor of the wonderful Mothers and Grandmothers that used Aprons, let's remember just how special they are .

Here, we decorated the cake table with vintage aprons and filled the pockets with flowers! It was a vintage touch that made everyone smile with surprise!!

An old apron is not only an intricate part of our history, but it's make for a gorgeous display. This knitted apron was ready for the Bride's  cake cutting!

Erica found a polka dot apron that went with her theme and was absolutely adorable for the cake and dessert cutting!

Shantel found one for her and one for her Groom, Aron! They both wore aprons but used them for the money dance!! The great part about aprons are their deep and large pockets!

I love our aprons and now it's so much fun using them in new creative ways!!
Enjoy!

The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think our kids
know what an apron is. The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses, and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing
hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow,
bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.
REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love.

Beer from a Wine Barrel?

Hi!
Have you ever heard of getting Beer from a Wine Barrel?
We have and did!
One of my Father's of the Bride were concerned about a bar line following the ceremony. He wanted his guests to have access to the beverages without waiting!
I came up with a solution that was so much fun as well as  pretty!!

Brandi's theme included lots of lace, organza and vintage accents!
So, before the wedding this wine barrel was disguised! Can you see the lace and peach ribbon peeking out?  A linen was draped over the barrel,  a basket filled with flowers and an old lace parasol was added.....

And after the ceremony, the linen came off and .....Let the Party Begin!!
The wine barrel doubled as a beer barrel!  So Cute!
I placed a lace lined bucket inside the barrel and filled with  beer and ice! I added a sign and waalaaa... Beer from a Wine Barrel!!

I added two bottle openers that dangled from twine for not only a great accent but for opening bottles too!
One of my staff stood nearby inviting the guests to enjoy and refilling when it was needed!
It was the perfect solution to the bar line!

I loved it!!

A Good Florist...A Great Florist!

Hi!

What makes a good florist? A good florist is one that is timely, for sure. They understand your vision and on the day of your wedding, delivers what you ordered.

What makes a really GREAT florist? A really great florist not only is timely, understands your vision and delivers what you ordered, but they listen and take your vision to a new level of  creativity and detail.  Let me explain a little bit better and offer some examples.

I use Alison of Flower Allie in Fullerton for all the reasons I have stated above and because she gives me and my Brides so much more. Every wedding I have at the Estate, I receive buckets of extra flowers to do as I please. I am not talking about a couple of roses and some greenery! The bucket I receive has a couple dozen roses, peonies, hydrangea, lisianthus, tulips, mini roses and more. Not only are the bouquets and centerpieces full and beautiful and completely amazing, Alison "gets" it! I really appreciate her creativity, her generosity and most of all, I love that she helps inspire me to find solutions to make each of our events that much better!

Here's a wonderful example: Brandi Pate and Josh Coker - June 2, 2012 Wedding and Reception

I created this vignette as the guests make their way to the ceremony site. I used an old frame of Brandi's and wired it to the wrought iron. Next, she had a gold oil can that I spray painted ivory and attached lace on top. (Her colors were ivory and peach with a mix of textures of lace and organza!) For their engagement shoot, she had these signs; "He Asked" and "She Said Yes." I thought they would be perfect touch for the entrance to the ceremony!

These are the gorgeous "extra" flowers I receive every week from Alison!

Next, the Cake Table!! Brandi chose real Cream Cheese Frosting so the cake had to be set out a little later in the day to keep it from melting. It actually worked out well because the main cake was butter cream (not shown yet) and the other "Brandiettes" had lots of  flowers to off set the missing cakes. (Brandiettes were cake stands  made by gluing  glass candle stick holders to old vintage plates.
Cute Huh?)

Our vintage aprons adorned the table all the way around. I had the flowers to take this design to a new level. I placed flowers on top of the table and included flowers in all the pockets of the aprons!!
                                             It was absolutely adorable!
On the lattice work structure behind the cake, I wired milk glass vases and crystal glass vases and filled them all with flowers also.  This is a Michelle original that is even better because I had the resources to take my ideas of detail to that other level.

The Arch! Brandi had purchased windows for her seating chart, a welcome sign, the bar menu and the buffet menu. Since she had one left, I suggested that we incorporate in the Arch!
Brandi painted this window with her VOWS!!!
Isn't that  romantic and perfect for her ceremony!
I added organza, floral clusters and my favorite part of this display....

Mini floral bouquets for the window itself!

All the tables were gorgeous and the Sweetheart table was no exception! Check out the "L"  "O"  "V" "E" jars in front! Her theme was "All You Need Is Love!" and it was wonderful!

How do you select a great florist? Talk to them and see if they listen. Check out their work and see if you can see your vision in their work. Better yet, see if they can take your vision to new heights. If you don't have a vision, that's when they are really important. Let them help you!! It's all about enjoying the process. Check out Flower Allie in Fullerton, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you Alison, Samatha and Nick at Flower Allie for making me look good!

Having Fun with Color!

Hi!

If you have an idea or ideas for your wedding, don't second guess, don't worry, just go for it!
Kallie did and it was over-the-top fun with Color!
With the help of Alison of Flower Allie, the flowers were just what Kallie wanted! They Popped! Here are some more photos (thank you BrandiBarrPhotography) of more details to  show how much fun we had with Color!

The Bride's bouquet, rich and colorful and loaded with texture!
The wine celar door made a great backdrop!

This is one of the windows of the gazebo where the cake is displayed. I just loved Kallie's little milk jugs. I added a few flowers and it just was so much fun!

Here's the gate photo... up close. It's just so cute! Come on in!

I found this picture and I just loved it! Here's Kallie with her Dad. They stopped on the chalk hearts on the walkway for everyone to see her.   Dad leaned in for a precious kiss before continuing on to present her to Nick.

The Candy Station! Yummmmmmmm! Fun with Color!!

The  Centerpiece! Actually, Kallie decided on two different styles.... Half had the lanterns with flowers...
The other half had mini colorful chandelieres... but we added flowers instead of candles! The placemat is a woven ribbon square! The ribbon theme was everywhere!!!

Kallie and Nick decided on a sweetheart table. So, their table was set with our vintage pink depression glass and a vintage lace overlay! Her floral wired vase was at first a challenge for me. She wanted it on her table to display  her bouquet but it looked to plain to me. I came up with this...
I added another vase inside and surrounded it with fresh rose petals! She got her vase, her bright flowers and a beautiful vessel for her bouquet.

What's your idea?
I'm here to help!

Color, Color and more Color!

Hi!

I posted in a previous post about Kallie's color and the planning and all the fun I was having. I am pleased to announce that Nick and Kallie were wed on May 12th at the Jones Victorian Estate under a beautiful and bright sunny day!

All her special touches came to life that day.  The Estate's flowers were stunning in the background and added just what we needed to complete her special day.

An extra special Thank you to Brandi Barr Photography for capturing all the details and the fun of their day!!

Here, all the Bridesmaids are standing in support of Kallie as she spoke her vows. I love their floral dresses!

Now this is a great photograph! I love the energy and of course... the color is spectacular!

The Arch was decorated with beautiful  ribbons of different widths, colors and textures. I added flowers to the ribbons that created a  playful yet elegant Arch. It was colorful yet romantic and all those ribbons had movement!  They swayed in the soft breezes!!! It was a gorgeous backdrop for the ceremony.
Nice Kiss!!!

Ahhhh, the gazebo! The ribbon skirting for the cake table! It's color and it's just gorgeous!! Where's the cake?

Kallie's sign welcomed the guests to the ceremony site and I added the little floral touch on the right.
I found an old white frame, wired three of her colorful mini milk jugs to it, added flowers and tied it to the gate along with one of her framed flowers and... Waalaa, it's so cute!!!
I just love the special detailed decoration!

Props! I found this old colorful parasol and instantly thoughts of Kallie! It adds just the right element for the shot and for the day!

Thank you Kallie and Nick for choosing the Jones Victorian Estate! I loved working with you and I miss you dearly!!!
